Tips & Tricks for ORIGINAL HWK Repair Dongle from MXKEY TEAM Software (working with MXKEY Dongle attached) - read the instruction on this page while downloading the software:

Some tips on using the software:

1. Remove any other devices from your USB port (keep only HWK Repair Dongle and MXKEY)


2. Connect HWK Repair Dongle and install the drivers from Prolific website

- if you already have Prolific drivers on your computer (you are not asked to install driver once you plug HWK Repair Dongle into your computer)


3. Please check if the drivers are up to date and if HWK Repair Dongle uses the latest available drivers:

- go to Device Manager
- search for Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port Device
- right click on it and select Proprieties
- go to Driver Tab and check driver version
- if driver is older than 2010 please uninstall your current driver or update-it using the new available driver


4. The software will warn you if your default Comm Port Device Number is higher than 8.

- You can adjust your Com Port Number using Proprieties (read the last thing before this on how to get there) -> Port Settings -> Advanced -> Com Port Number setting


5. For those of you wondering about this error ”Erasing flash memory…Erase failed. Synchronization error.”

- This error means that HWK Repair Dongle cannot communicate with your HWK.

- This error is displayed the MXKey HWK Repair Dongle in all the following cases:
a. your HWK is not connected ( or not properly connected ). Use your hand to push the HWK against HWK
b. you have connected HWK the other way around ( retry programming while changing HWK position )
c. HWK is hardware damaged
d. Drivers are obsolete ( please be sure you have the latest drivers )
e. HWK Repair Dongle is Damaged ( because we test it one by one this is rarely the problem ) – check using another HWK that you know is working
